Terrible. I sincerely feel for the folks that have no choice (or little choice) in the matter. I fortunately have the luxury of just sticking with PT9 for what I use it for (light and quick tracking), and Logic for my larger composition projects. I even keep Studio One around, cause it's pretty darn cool, especially their new upgrade, with tons of new features, Melodyne integration, oh, and a $99 upgrade price.

Avid really is showing their true colors, without an ounce of shame.

Yes, for a presentation like that they have to use only the most expensive everything. It's like people drinking water from gold cups.

PT 9 is treating me just fine for now. Maybe I'll wait for 11 to upgrade.

This is a little confusing. I'm reading the "Whats New In Pt 10" pdf and according to that all versions have the increased delay compensation. So there's a misprint somewhere.

Yeah - if they only upped the ADC for HD, they can kiss my ass. That's the ONLY reason to buy the upgrade.

This is FALSE.

ADC remains as is for PT HD (Accel) card based PTHD10 systems; this is due to hardware limitations.

ADC is increased to (~)16k for ALL other PT10 versions; this includes PT10 (native), and PTHD10 with HDN and the new HDX systems.
(see my post above; includes the webcast. also, the Avid site shows the 16k ADC for PT10, and the DUC already has replies from Avid employees stating so)

ADC and voices are only for HDX and HDNAtive not accell cards due to the hardware restrictions

Hmmm...
Like Disc caching?

Every DAW does something another one doesn't, that's just the way it's always been, before that, some sequencers did things others didn't.

But it's the first time PT has had these features, so for people who could give a rat's behind about "every other DAW" out there, the point is moot.

Yep, AVID is a video company. So clips, no more regions.

Well.... yes, but what horrible person would chose a DAW stick to it out of deliberate blindness to the progress being made by other programs?

Progress was being made with EA by Live before anyone else as far as I know...did you switch over to it?
Progress is being made by Studio One right now, but you will take four weeks to tempo map something you could map in Logic in a matter of minutes. They all have their cool features.

Don't confuse "blindness" with preference. PT has the best interface and workflow of anything out there, at least for pure audio work... and is supported better than anything else. It's behind the curve in midi and that's about it.

They don't record 100 piece orchestras for mega budget films or major releases on PT out of blindness or because someone has a gun to their collective heads. Industry standard for a reason, and it isn't because of their friendly pricing structure.

[email protected]# Avid!!

I just spent 50.000$ (50.000$!!!!!!) for a big Protools HD 9 system, 4 weeks ago.
Now the hardware is obsolete.
And no one told me anything.

Hmmm...still didn't include the things most people were asking for....pretty bummed bout that, but everything else looks amazing. Mostly interested in the Session Ram thing....cool new plugs, the global solo and mute button, the buss interrogation window, more busses, more ADC....all looks cool...

I guess sending my music to itunes is more important than speeding up the workflow of printing tracks...

Owell, I still love it. I'll probably get it shortly.

So I'm not the techiest dude. What does this mean for my Black Lion 003? Does hardware determine the bit depth or the software? Will I be able to run PT10 if I'm limited to 24 bit? Thus missing out on the alleged magic of having my plugins run at 32 bit?

This is EXACTLY what I thought...**** soundcloud....**** iTunes...I can DEAL with DRAGGING AND DROPPING MY SONGS INTO ITUNES.....but I guess spending real time bouncing and printing tracks (freezing) isn't such a big deal right?
