Avid Pro Tools Tech Preview (version 10?) IBC 2011...

Sorry if I'm late to the party, haven't got the time to read..

Came back from IBC today, saw a techno preview of PT.

- Clip based gain! (also on groups)
- No more rendering fade files (realtime fades)
- 64 bit
- apparently loads the whole or part of the session into RAM for insane performance
- Extended workflow for dealing with multi-track recordings from field recorders
- open multiple Audiosuite plugs at the same time, support for process whole file (yay, handles!!), you can save open audiosuite plugs as a screenset, for easy replication of fx. So no real undoable undestructive "layered" processing, but step in the right direction.

Lots more details, but these were the highlights.

gotta run!

If this is true Avid has addressed almost all of my top feature wants in one update. Big news indeed.

As someone who started working with a PC native DAW in '97, I've always been intrigued by the features PT did and didn't have. While there have been some head-down, heavy production flow features that PT had that my DAW didn't or still doesn't have, for a one seat shop (ie, a project studio, not a broadcast or video production factility), my DAW has been well ahead of PT's curve for years, delivering pretty much all the features above, as I understand them, by the middle of the last decade.

Will we get this in version 9 or will we have to wait for 10 (and if so, how far off is it, do Avid know?)

These are features I've been begging for.

Oh helllll yes. Also 64 bit should probably been in the title :P

People have been dying for this to happen.

Clip based gain and that new crossfade view look amazing as well.

in most cases, i'd say don't get your hopes up. but then again, it does seem to be working so maybe it could be released sooner than later. my guess is that it'll be a paid upgrade, though.

The clip based gain feature would be worth any (reasonable) update price for me in itself.

This rocks! One of the few things I like about Cubase 6 is the file based gain handles.

looks like its a User Conference to show off all of the features used to create contemporary productions. Maybe a glorified AES convention?

Wow! For the first time I want to go 64bit. I am very interested in the "playing a session from RAM". I wonder how much RAM would be enough on OSX.

Clip based volume was long overdue too.

Avid knows the new Logic Pro X is coming out, that's why they wanna/ have to show they're also not sitting still. Probably a lot of their new stuff is in the new Logic Pro already...for sure they know what Apple is up to.

ProTools 10 preview?

Wow, I love what I'm seeing there!
Pretty much what I've been wishing for.
Maybe templates for (savable) Chanel strips in the create new track dialogue too - bit like logic's system
