external SSD and HDD

Here for the gear

external SSD and HDD

I hope this question belongs here as it is not really a 100% Logic question......

Imac 27'' i5 Quad 3.5 GHz (2017 model, but brand new:-) )

At the moment I have 8GB RAM that came with the machine, I am gonna get another 32 GB but probably Corsair (not sure yet) but not Apple... Gonna save me some $s, but that is another topic.....

I have a 512GB SDD in the imac, and will get a 2 to 4 (still on the fence) TB external and want to run my plug-ins and external libraries. I also recently read that we can now easily export the Logic library as well.

So: Am I ok with a brand name (maybe WD) HDD USB 3, or do I need an external SDD (bit above my budget).

I probably wont have tons of plug ins at a time for most of my projects but there will be situations where it may get close..

BTW: If I am wrong with this question here, please let me know where to post... Thanx

External SSDs are better for fast sample-loading... But only if you're connection is Thunderbolt or USB3. I'm a pc guy, but I've a few large sample libraries that load much faster after moving them to SSD.
