Logic X Slow

Hi i didnt want to create a new thread so hoping someone will help me here
I`m using LOGIC PRO x
everythuing seens to be ok but if i create more than 5 layers of tracks , things seem to slow down

i`m thinking if the hard drive needs to be replaced , can anyone recommend a good tool to test my hard drive
i have 32 gigs of memory
an rme audio interface all on SIERA
any other reasons why the system freezes up for a few seconds, spining wheel.

Also whats the best tool to check the condition of the drive.

Also when i upgrade to a larger size drive , when installing programmes like KONTAKT do i install the KONTAKT and place the instruments in an external drive ?

SSD's connect commonly to the Sata bus. I guess you mean an older spindle drive and not solid state. If so you might want to consider upgrading to an SSD. If this is a Logic related problem you might be better off posting this in the Logic sub forum here.

Another possibility is that older style HD's slow down when they are over 80% full.

Do you have your project on another drive?

Is it a spinning disk?

With my Macs I have dedicated project drives, then the system drive is free to manage virtual memory.

Take a look at your Activity Monitor utility (found in the Utilities folder), while playing back a project.

I have 1TB system drives so I put samples and Kontakt on my sample drive with plenty room to spare.

I have about 400 GB free space currently.
