Back Up Logic 10.4.3?

Hi All

I just want to check that the instructions on how to back up Logic are correct.

Do I not need to copy the original before compressing it???

This is from thew Apple Site

To back up your current copy of the Logic Pro X application:

Create a new folder in the Applications folder. Name the folder with the name and version of the application (for example, "Logic Pro X 10.2.4"). To check the version of Logic Pro X you have, open the application and choose About Logic Pro X from the Logic Pro X menu.
Select the Logic Pro X application in the Applications folder. Choose File > Compress "Logic Pro X." It will take a few minutes to compress.
Move the resulting "Logic Pro X.zip" file into the folder you created in step 1.
Move the folder containing the .zip file to a backup drive.

Soz if stupid question!!

We had an occurrence a while back, it might have been version 10.3.x, where the app HAD to be called Logic Pro X.app or it wouldn't start. But generally we've been able to keep multiple copies around, named by version number, say Logic ProX_1042.app, and even extending the name by any themes/mods you've applied, and they all could be started, and from multiple aliases too. These can be kept in the Applications folder and (should be) backed up to other disks. So it's very simple, just rename old versions, you don't even have to zip them. But do make backup copies.

This used to work but at some point Logic started updating the app even if you had changed the name. You must compress it into a zip file if you want to make sure it’s backed up.

If you have any specific drivers installed, like for a Faderport, you’ll want to keep a copy of these in a separate folder. They’ll need to be reinstalled in the Show Contents/Midi Devices folder after each update.
