Is a 6 feet USB cable too long?

Hi all I have a kinda dumb question. I am buying a new cable for my Zoom H4n pro portable recorder, and I am thinking of buying a 6 feet one, but I worry whether a 6 feet cable would introduce any latency/slower transfer speed than a 3 feet cable?

I wouldn't worry about 6' vs 3'. Most latency issues have to do with the connection used (USB 2.0 vs 3.0), computer efficiency, and other software running that eats up available memory. Just buy a decent USB cable.

Thank you very much! Yeah this USB cable is pretty sturdy and pretty thick, looks good quality.

You can safely ignore the contribution of cabling signal propagation speeds to audio latency.

Audio in the air travels at about 1.1-foot per millisecond.
Signals in a cable travel about 126 miles per millisecond.

That is real fast thank you very much for your reply! Now I wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore

According to USB.org, the specified maximum USB cable length for "high speed devices" is 5 meters. Your 6 foot cable should be just fine.
