You could try Trew audio. They still service a lot of older equipment.

The only person that could reliably repair our DAT machines was Paul Plotnick at Pro Digital in Broomal PA.

Yes, I can highly recommend Paul for DAT,
and other repairs. Does a good job at a reasonable price. Will tell you if something is not not worth fixing.

Eddie once saved me a lot of money. After attending his service tutorial at AES one year, I stopped grinding away my DA-88 heads with "cleaning" tapes. He taught us how to clean them safely and correctly, and I never had any more problems with that machine.

I wish he had taught me what to do about a SV-3700 DAT machine. The correct advice would have been "Throw it in the dumpster before it costs you any more money!"

Pro Digital

Hi, have read forums for a long time, never posted.
I communicated with Paul at Pro Digital right the virus hit, about a busted Sony DAT. I followed his instructions and sent it to the store.
To make a long story short, Paul has sadly passed away. Store seems to be closed and no answers to emails, calls etc.
My machine is gone, and I don't know what to do about it. Because of the high regard for him on here, and the prompt email, and help he offered me, I don't want to start anything bad for his family or co workers, but I need that DAT.
Can anyone offer me any advice as to what to do?
All my stuff is mastered onto DAT, and I am kind of stuck.
Thanks in advance,
Brett

Hi Brett,

I met Paul at ProDigital years ago when I ran a recording studio here in Philadelphia. We became friends, and like many in our small Philadelphia community, it really hit hard when he passed away in May. He was a really solid guy, who would go out of his way to help people out however he could. I remember meeting him at 1am to fix our SSL powersupply in time for a morning session the next day.

I know a few folks helping the family clear out his shop. Shoot me an email with any info that might help identify your machine, and I can see if they have any processes in place to return gear. [email protected]

Full disclosure, Paul was a brilliant, funny, honest guy...but organization was not one of his strong points.

Happy to help if I can.
