Using electro harmonix memory man with live

Hey all, I am trying to integrate my Memory Man delay pedal into Live .. however am having a lot of trouble getting it to work.

So I am running a lead out of one of the line output channels from my interface (Steinberg UR44) through to the input of my pedal, and then running another lead from the output of the pedal back into one of the inputs of my interface.. as soon as I do this the pedal creates a deafening feedback which only goes away if you turn all the settings right down or unplug the cable. As soon as I turn them back up the feedback comes back again.. this is all happening before even getting to the stage of trying to route out one of my channels to the pedal from Live... in fact it happens even if my computer is off.. so it seems to be the memory man reacting off of some sort of signal when it goes into my interface and that is coming through the monitors very very loud.

Am I missing some vital step in the signal chain here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
