Bus with mixture of midi and audio?

Hi All,

Running the latest Ableton 10.1 and want to create a template. I want to also create Buss's for the relevant parts of my template, such as Drum Bus, Percussion Bus etc. How can i do this when there is a mixture of midi and audio (i use the Kick 2 plugin for my kicks instead of audio) so i can do parallel compression and so on. I did think just grouping them would do it but cant see how that can work?

Any help appreciated

Matt

Kick 2 outputs audio, so grouping should work (Groups are located after the Tracks in the signal path). You can also use Return Tracks, routing outputs into an extra Audio Track (very similar to grouping though). Drum Racks have internal Return chains.

Most plugins have a a dry/wet knob that accomplishes parallel compression, you can also use Audio Effect Racks for that.

Hi,

Ive sorted it now. It wasnt letting me do it whilst nothing was in the midi track. Once i placed a kick in, the option became available. How do you mean wet/dry knob will do parallel compression?

Parallel compression is mixing the original audio ("dry") with the compressed audio ("wet"), so a dry/wet knob in a compression plugin (or Rack) accomplishes that.

It is one of those things that need some effort in hardware, but are almost too easy in software.
