Hardware Synth Latency Question

Hello. I play several different hardware synths with a MOTU microlite USB MIDI interface and an Akai MPK261 controller.

A while back I discovered my pitch bends were rough (stepped) and my problem turned out to be my buffer size being too low. I had to set it to 512 and cannot go any lower or else my pitch bends sound like **** and mod wheel FX are almost non-existent.

I have an annoying amount of latency from the external synths now and it is really getting on my nerves.

I am wondering what steps I should take to reduce it since I don't wan't to lower my buffer size. Would it be worth getting a second Microlite? All five ports are currently being used.
