Recording, Pasting, Switching Octave

Hi,

I'm with an issue when recording on Ableton. I'm working each small part at a time.

So, I record a small piece of the melody. When, later, I click on the same track to record the sequence, it erases the previous melody - if I click on the right point to record, I can't hear the previous part to be able to play it well.

So I started creating a new midi track to record. My plan was to copy/paste the melody on the previous.

But I find difficult to copy/paste and put it at the right point, it's always a little wrong. There are Copy/Paste tricks for Ableton?

I couldn't figure how to merge tracks either.

Also, is there a way to automatically switch octaves of an entire melody? I do this often manually.

Thank you a lot.

Here for the gear

Hi, man.

In order to change the octave of an audio sample/loop/recording you can use the Transpose function, you will see it if you double click on the sample, or simply by bringing out the sample editor. -12 for one octave down(-24,-36,etc) or +12 for one octave up (+24,+36,etc).

In order to record MIDI over another MIDI you will need to enable overdub function which is located at the top of the DAW and it looks like a "+" (plus).

Hope that helps. My english is not the best
Cheers!

Switch octaves by selecting the notes you want to switch and then hit (Shift + an up or down arrow)
