I specialize in contemporary styles of songwriter, pop and rock as well as teach and sing Traditional Jazz standards. Learning voice seems confusing for a while and at first it will sound like everyone is saying that they teach the same things. Any teacher worth their salt should have a lot of material available for you to check out and see which system feels right for you. Because no matter who you chose, there is a lot of hard work involved and it's better you put some research in at the beginning. Because once you get started it's best that you put some faith in someone for a while to let what they're teaching you sink in.
Voice is a tricky instrument to learn. It is easy to take the wrong steps and actually cost yourself a great deal more time. It is also very important to find someone who truly understands vocal mechanics and technique to avoid damaging your voice. Research the teachers you are looking at. Do not go to a voice teacher just because they are less expensive. Teaching voice well requires a great deal of study and experience. You would not seek out the cheapest Doctor. There is a very big difference between a voice coach and a voice teacher. A great teacher can truly give you a tour and insight to how the instrument (voice) really works and help you feel and coordinate it. And then, along the way they can guide and coach you to properly using it in context to singing.
