New York City, NY: Broadcast Engineer for WNYC


Description: The Broadcast Engineer operates all broadcast audio equipment associated with the WNYC Radio technical plant to deliver the highest possible audio quality to the listener.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Operates a control room/production booth for all broadcast activities including live on-air engineering, pre-production engineering and post-production engineering
• Performs all functions related to operate equipment associated with Radio Master Control, including but not limited to downlink ingesting, uplink transmissions, ISDN transmissions, monitoring and operating transmitter remote controls and monitoring the air and broadcast quality of the stations
• Operates and assists other users and administrators in station’s digital audio networks
• Assist the maintenance staff and/or Director of Engineering in broadcast equipment maintenance and project wiring and implementation
• Performs all functions related to remote broadcast recording and broadcasting, including but not limited to equipment selection, packing, transporting, loading and unloading, assembly and disassembly, transmission continuity and quality checking and system operation
• Assist in keeping the above equipment stored in an orderly fashion
• Assist in keeping all areas of technical work in a safe, organized and clean condition
• May be required to pick up or deliver equipment, parts and supplies from outside locations
• Comply with all WNYC/WQXR and show policies and guidelines
• This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment; requires bending, reaching and lifting of up to (50 pounds); ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods
• Ability to work extended hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends, and may be required to be on-call at times
• Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
• Two year minimum degree in audio engineering, communications, or related broadcast field required
• Three years experience in live and post-production broadcast audio production engineering, including waveform editing and minimum 2-track mixing required
• Practical knowledge of computers, computer systems and associated audio interfaces required
