Jazz trio, from start to finish in 8 hours

A buddy of mine is auditioning for graduate school, so he needed a quick recording of him singing some standards. It's piano, bass, drums and vocals (that's still a trio, right?), all in iso booths.

I was really pleased with the drums, aside from the kick. I had an RE-20 and a AKG SolidTube in front of it. It didn't really sound good to begin with, IMO. But it's jazz, so maybe I'm just not used to it.

The piano was easy enough, and the bass might have a little too much in the 200-300 range, but hey, it was quickly done.

Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Please keep in mind that this is an audition tape for a vocalist, so the vocal's a little more out in front than I'd like.

Thanks =)
James

me likes it ! besides that the vocals are way to loud ( you alrdy did mention that ).
a lil 8k on the drums wouldnt hurt imho to bring in some sizzle.
besides that i would probably pan the instruments different to give it more of a live feeling. drums in the middle , bass more to the right , piano more to the left ?

the best results are most time the quickies

i would turn the vocals down a bit and have a lil eq on the 2bus to make it a lil more hifi ... should be easy. good job !
