Sublimish pop/rock

I haven't posted on here in a while... been busy recording! Just put out a 4 song EP about two months ago and had a great up and coming engineer down here in South Florida mix it, Mike Waxman.

If you feel like checking it out I'd love any and all feedback from some "critical" ears. The first song "Twentysomething" is most people's favorite. Just go to either of the links below and it will play automatically. The quality is much better from the website than myspace though.

just listened to twentysomething the fourth time through

it's a great song, i'm a fan already :)

mixing wise, it's great

my personal preference would be that the little nuances (the hammond, backup vocal, etc) could be slightly louder and that the hi-hat could be a little quieter. it feels like it's weakening the groove, which is great btw

good luck!

btw, why so many different styles on your E.P.?

Thanks, much appreciated! My influences run the gamut so I tend to gravitate between styles but still try and keep it in the pop/rock vein. Since this is my first EP I kinda wanted to take a diverse sampling of what I felt were some of my best songs and see what the reaction was.

People seem to like them all and everyone has their favorites but the general consensus is "Twentysomething" stands out which is good to know cuz I felt that from the start. It's also good since most of my songs lean towards that one the most out of the four. The other one that really grows on people is the last song "Let the Devil Know." People love that one live.

hey, since you're here,

is there a "you" you're referring to in let the devil know? or is it just a general thing?

the lowered bitrate thing for that song in the verse makes the lyrics hard to understand. I'm listening at a low level through A7s (being a bit late at night right now) but it could be clearer. Cool effect but it sounds like a plugin. Is it? I don't know if you have another option though. Maybe just play with the settings a little more.

i know what it's like to write a song and know the lyrics and it's easy to hear what i'm saying. Go grab some random person who's never heard it before and run it through them as you play with it.

The "you" is general. The song itself is kind of a libertarian rant against people trying to impose their values on society. The main message is you should be able to do whatever the f**k you want as long as it doesn't affect anyone else.

You're right about the lyrics. My producer came up with effect, it's a plug in but I can't remember what he used. When he first played it for me I liked the sound but thought it might be hard for people to understand the lyrics. In the end we decided to go with it cuz we liked the vibe and figured if they really want to know exactly what a certain word or phrase is they can look at the lyrics online. It's just that kind of song! (I know some people will probably disagree with that decision... oh well.)
