Finished song want feedback hello, I play drums in a band called Closure in Moscow. I've recorded this song entirely through my mbox with pretty shabby acoustics, just wanted your feedback as to what elso i could do to this mix to achieve a better quality product? eg mixing, mastering, anything. Please listen to the song titled "clocks to Suffocate Us" www.purevolume.com/closureinmoscow Feel free to really get stuck into it constructively, i want to really up my game. Im still very new to the whole recording environment. thanks! look forward to your thoughts. Beau

How long have you been recording? If you're as 'new' as you say, I'm not worried about you. You seem to have an intuitive handle on things. This sounds pretty damn good. It's got some nice bottom which is what's usually lacking in people's first mixes. Hey, the MP3 encoding is really bad on that site (not your fault) but do you think you could upload a WAV of the mix or at least a section of it? How much compression did you use on the kit? Already I can hear that (a) it rocks and (b) your band can play and (c) you have a good singer (extremely figging rare). So 'f' the rest. Did you submix the drums? More details! ![]() P.S: I thought you played in a band called "Closure" in Moscow. Now I see that "Closure in Moscow" is the name. Всего наилучшего!

wow thanks heaps max cooper! Firstly, i have no idea how to upload here. ive seen people do it, how do you do this? The drums are not real unfortunately, its all midi triggered through a crappy electronic kit i play on, then i go through and neaten the takes. I'm using Reason 2.0 at the moment for drum sounds, which sucks. you only have 3 different velocities for different sounds, so on this particular recording, i recorded some real snare and some real cymbals in parts, and i used alot of waves plugins, because they are so good. Im actually really scared of venturing into BFD soon when i get my new electronic drumkit, because i dont really know where to start mixing and eq'ing drums.

not really much feedback here, it sounds very good. Again, I would get it mastered or learn how to do full mastering yourself (it's often easier to get someone else to do it, to warm it up and make it full sounding yet still maintain dynamics), other than that I don't love the digital hihat sound (I record using the same type of digital kit often and try when possible to use real cymbals and use close miced hats for this type of music unless I've got a great sounding room where I can rely on the overheads for the hats). I swear I heard digital hi hats somewhere along in the song for a few bars at least, maybe more than that but there was one quieter part where they were noticeable. Anyway, good work on it. I would compress the lead vocal a little more and bring it up in the mix a little bit, but then I'm listening on crappy headphones at work so God knows. I also get lots of distortion in the mix (non-guitar type, I mean bad distortion) but I'm starting to think it's the crappy phones and mp3s in media player combined since I heard it in another mix as well from another artist, so you tell me if it's there or not (compressed distortion on loud transients). If you're bored and don't mind listening to some poppy cover stuff check out a song I did in my studio, maybe give me some feedback as well. Styles of music are different but we're all open minded here! Double Take Recording tracks Cheers, Don

Wow thanks heaps, that was the best feedback possible, exactly what i was looking for! I wil check out your link now. Ive just finished a new song from our band, and i have taken most of your advice on board - except for the fact i cant really record real hats at the moment, but i will put the song up this week and i'd love your feedback on the next one! its good to have something to work with :-) Beau
