Did I tweek this too much?

I've been working on cleaning up a FOH board mix ~~> 2 track and I think I've tweaked the kick a bit too much. I can't tell well as I'm not in a great listening environment.

Not being able to hear the kick well I searched an boosted the kick's fundamental resonance using a 5hz wide notch. I keep going back and forth trying to decided if it sounds great or too boomy. Since it's down in the 62hz range the bass sometimes gets close enough that it too gets a bit of a boost.

Please ignore all other aspects of this recording as I know it has flaws musically. and I know I have one of the BGvox way to hot in the left channel.

Thanks for your opinions and criticisms.

No comments so far

So 24 people have read this post, Maybe listened to the samples but have no comments.

Either I've screwed this up beyond description or it's so subtle that no one can hear the difference and its all in my head.

Okay...
I'm not too impressed with the overall sound of that drum kit.
The tweaked file does sound like a bit of overkill, to me.

Thanks for confirming my ears and my sanity.

I dont' like the drum sound much either. It's a couple of low quality mics. One Condenser for OH and one dynamic on the outer head of the kick. can't get it up to the beater as he doesn't have a hole cut in the head.

It's a real shame as the kit is a wonderful 60's ??? kit that is warm and full of sound. I play bass and I love playing with him just to hear the kit.

Someday I'll drag my rig in to church with me a track them like I want to.

Cheap mics do make a big difference.
So do old, beaten heads.

It seems this bickering is showing up in every Mp3 upload thread. Let's hear some of your guy's stuff. I need to know who's side to be on.

Make up your mind - itismy 'day job', though I mostly work at night and sleep in the day.

DeeDrive, not bickering on my part - I really did get a much needed laugh on a day that wasn't going so well when I read the post I quoted in my previous post. Roxxon simply is pretty funny a lot of the time. But he is also dangerous, because he is a hobbyist who posts in every thread and I hope newbs don't take him too seriously - check out his statement about compressing distorted guitars to death in another thread.

He claims a hobby of songwriting as well and says he will eventually post some recordings up, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't keep posting this crap in this poor guy's thread except that he seemed to have closed the original topic several posts up.
