Critique a Rough Mix (Rock song)

Howdy. I just recorded a quick 2 minute song (it's actually a song from my friend's ex-band) to test out some of my new gear. Keep in mind, it's a fairly quick mix, and I lack quite a lot of gear necessary to go balls out on a mix, but any criticisms would be cool. This is my own arrangement of the music, I programmed the drums, played bass, guitars, and sang (and I am absolutely not a singer, I just had no other choice but do it myself so ignore the bad singing, I'm just lookin for tips production wise)

I like the vox. You sound just fine singing that song.
Your voice suits that music style nicely.
The guitar is too over-powering and harsh sounding...very tinny too boot.
Maybe compression and EQ will help.
You have some good sounds on the recording...
I would really work on that guitar sound.

Just my 2 bits.

you asked...

- your voice is fine. good backups and harmonies.
- distorted guitar is small and buzzy.
- don't like the open hh sound at all.
- some of the "extra" guitar licks, feedback and what not could be more emphasized. Try a bit more of that and less of the power cords. and get rid of some of the harshness buzz from that power cord distorted guitar. Maybe try panning the power cords off to one side, (or double them with different sounds and pan hard to both sides) open it up a bit and give some space for that guitar candy going on.

sometimes less (processing, eq, parts, mics, and so on) is better.

just my opinion...
