| Hey, I'm currently doing all the recording/mixing work for my band and these 3 songs are our very first songs recorded, so it's not stellar but in some ways sort of listenable. I did all the mixing and since it's my first time I dont expect it to be on par with the pros(which I know many of the members here are industry people); and I really hope that you guys would give these songs a listen and tell me what you think about the songs and the mixes. It's also the first time we did tracking as well. I plan to record everything all over again sometime in the future considering we're all students barely out of our teens(all of us are 18 besides the drummer, who's 16) and we dont have the privillege of devoting all of our time into this little project of ours. About the recording equipments used, they are very very basic. We just plugged all the instruments into the mixer and from the mixer straight into the laptop. We recorded using the Audacity, so, nothing fancy there. Do check out the songs and tell me what you think. Thanks a lot! God Who Never Sleeps You Are Beautiful What You Want Me To Thanks again! |

| Gear Head | I listened to the first song.. You've got some timing issues with all of the instruments in this song... My suggestion is to play a metronome quietly in your headphones when you do your foundational track (in your case, the acoustic). You also seem to be panning everything super far away from eachother... Guitar extreme left, Piano extreme right.. and the vocals are just like BLAM right in the middle... everything doesn't sound like its in the same room at all... You should focus on blending all of the tracks together. Your tones are a whole other situation... The piano you will be able to get away with when going direct (please do that in stereo if you can!!! makes it much more interesting)... but going direct with an acoustic sounds soo bad... even with like the latest technology in acoustic electrics I still hear a fake sound to it... Mic your guitar and your room together =]. Your vocals are peaking when you start singing your fortes... I suggest a compressor. Good lyrics Plz try and get a stereo recording of your drum kit too if you decide to put it in the song... You've got good potential... I just think you need to readjust your attack at the project. maybe a small investment in mics/equipment. it will make a world of a difference. Hope I helped. Have a good one. |

| Thank you so much for your advice and I'll definitely work on them! :) Do you think you can throw in a bit of a recommendation on how do you think everything should pan out? What do you mean by stereo recording of the drum kit? At the moment, we only have 4 dynamic mics. Yup, a grand total of FOUR for the drums. So, how do you think we should go about by stereo recording the drum kit? Thanks a lot for the advice, once again. You're right. We lack a LOT in terms of equipment and skills. Skills can be worked on as we go about our little project but as for the equipment, it's gonna take a long time for me to gather all those things. So far the best mic I have is a Shure SM58. Guess I'll just have to work my way up slowly :) |

| Gear Head | have the acoustic be somewhere between 60 and 40 on the left, vox 20 left and/or like 20 right ... then your piano like 10 Left and 50 right (stereo).... just play around with that.. and for the drums, 4 mics is plenty... you can use one for the kick drum, 2 for overhead Left and Right (pan them accordingly in your mix) and one you can use for a sweetener aimed toward the snare (pan this one wherever your snare is on your overhead mix just to get a little more out of it. That last mic isn't super necessary.. but you at least need 2 overheads panned LR. The 58 is a gooood mic. it has more potential than people think. |
