My first song post here... So I guess I'm just looking for some general feedback. We were going for a very early nineties sound. No autotune. Recorded to iZ RADAR in my Neotek room. Mixed all OTB to 1/2". The dynamics were there but kind of got lost to the L2 in mastering. I only had an H-3000D/SE(micro pitch shift) and a TC M-oneXL(reverb) for effects. The snare suffered because of that. I already picked up a v2.0 PCM 70 and I'm planning on purchasing a 300L fairly soon. That should help out a lot. Anyway, those were my observations. Anything you guys have to offer would be amazing. Thanks so much! - Ben

Thanks for checking it out! Spektor, I used API 312's on almost everything. Toms, drum room mics, and hat were neotek board pre's. The outer kick mic and bass DI went through a UA 610. We just launched our new website, so you can see specifically what gear we had available to use. Thanks again! - Ben

Ben, Checked out your songs. They sound great! I sense a bit of audible distortion going on in them when the levels are up near peak when the guitars kick in (Chorus). Might be the L2??? My opinion would be to back down on the distorted guitars a little to keep the dynamics and not cloud it too much with the dist guitars. You certainly have the gear to get it right. I also went to your site and the MySpace site and read up on everything. I like the other 2 songs on MySpace too. Your vocal sound is spot on with great feel and awesome ambiance. I see you have a few RNCs! Funny little boxes... Great cheap units. I have a couple myself and use them from time to time. I also had a Pearl Session Series kit, but sold it about a year or so ago and use my custom kit (which stays set up all the time and miked) now. I don't play out much any more, just record mostly. Did you use those drums on these tracks? And did you play the kit in the recordings? I read that you know your way around the kit some! Just curious. If so, nice and solid drumming. Also, thanks for your comments on my recent song post hear at GS. You have keen observations for it. Look forward to hearing more of your work.

SRS, Likewise, thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the dist guitars were a little hot in the mix at times. Just one of those experience things I guess. No, unfortunately I did not play drums on this. I could only wish for those skills (or practice). I sang and played rhythm guitar. The drummer lives up near Portland. Great guy, he's playing with some other people up there now. The other three of us rehearse in Eugene, so for him to take down his kit, drive almost two hours, set up and tune, play for a few hours, take down his kit, drive two hours back, and unload at 3am was a bit much much. Too bad for us. He used a Tama kit also, I don't know the details on it. The Pearl Kit just hangs out at the studio for writing, jamming, stuff like that. It's short a few hardware pieces to get a good recording. Glad you like the vocal sound too! I am not a fan of overly loud, over compressed, way autotuned vocals. I was a little concerned that people wouldn't connect with the vocal sound we were after. Anyway, thanks again for checking it out. Cheers! - Ben
