Hardcore/Metal, opinions please Unmastered

Just posting up an unmastered track to see what you guys think, let me know!!

Lemme start out by saying that I really like the fact that the kick isn't over-clicky. In 95% of all "metal" or "hardcore" mixes I hear nowadays, there's a ridiculous amount of click on the kick.

The snare is a little wimpy. Sounds like an SM57 that's been compressed a little too much during tracking. The life has been squeezed out of it.

Otherwise, I think it sounds pretty good!

Agree about the snare. Try Multing it, you should be able to get it sounding real sharp. I just wrote a post about this on my blog:

I also think the lead vocal sits on top of the mix a little too much. It sounds like it could use a touch more compression, and maybe a real light delay or a different reverb.

The break with the vocals needs some crushing and delay or something. It sounds flat compared to the rest of the track, but not really in a good way.

If it were my mix, I might try reamping that break through a small speaker, mic it up with a 57, and use that to make the break set back a bit, and set the stage for the rest of the song to come in...

I agree on the kick and the snare comments.

There's a little low mid mess, play with a steep cut around 300 on the 2 mix.

For the vocal, it's too dry and harsh and yes, it's sits on top. Boost the mix wide around 3k and you can open up the guitars and really hear the vocals issues.

Think of vocals in 4 levels:

Buried
Equal
Head above water
Ice Cream Cone

You want head above water to equal for this style.
