Hardcore/metal, no vox rough mix opinions please

New to the board, just mixed a rough of my first full band with a soundcraft 800b i picked up fairly cheap, looking for constructive criticism. I'm used to ITB, but this is so much better workflow.

Thanks ahead of time

Andy

haha yes, D6 on the kick inside 4" from the beater, direct to the board pre's, Beta 52 just outside the soundhole again, all mics to the board direct, not outboard whatsoever...57 and audix adx-20 above the snare, 421 under then snare, adx-20 on the rack toms, D4 on the floor, Mxl 603 on hats, 451 on the ride and believe it or not two $69 mxl 990's for over heads and 2 studio projects b1 for room mics, all board EQ, the only processing is i blended a little sound replacer in with the kick (original kick sampled) and rcomp on snare buss....BF 1176 on the room mics squashed, and i think i used a pultec plug for a drum/bass buss and brought that in just under the drums

thanks for listening guys!!!

hey man,

i like the music and the production/mix just to bad that in the beginning and some other parts you only here that "lead" guitar only on one side. thats the only thing!!

What did you and they use on guitars? and till how far did you low cut them?

and it looks like i'll just have to bite the bullet and by myself some roommics too.. i didn't realy feel like i needed them for metal stuff and that most directmics would bhe enough but they REALY add something to the sound!! good stuff!!

you got some pics of the drumrecording?
and maybe a realy dumb question but could you post/or PM me a screenshot of the bass with paz analyzer? would maybe help on a mix of myself! would be great.

hey man, thanks for posting....yeah the leads in the beginning actually do offend me a little, so i was going to fix them after the vocalist comes down, as for the guitars, its a marshall mode IV through a 1960A cab, direct mic'ed inside a little 6'x6' iso chamber i built, i used a 57 with an adx-20 taped to it for phase alignment 45 degrees to the center, an e609 on the center of the cone, an mxl 603 about half an inch form the cone surround pointed directly at it for crunch and a SP b1 at the back wall facing the wall, all direct into my soundcraft with 3 ibp's for phase alignment, i also mixed this with a clean signal from a randall 100 watt solid state head through two celestion 30's, bussed the signal and comped 8:1 through an ashley cl52, i low passed at 100 hz and usually boost ~2db at 3khz. The only thing i don't like is the right side is a tad louder than the left.

Unfortunatly i have no pics of the drum setup, but i'll tell you, room mics DO make a huge difference, i have a 12x17 room with 8 foot ceilings, i put the kit facing the control room window right in the middle and put the room mics in the front actually 2" form the top corners facing the corners for reflection, and squash the hell out of them...always adds thickness as doe the drum/bass buss blended in under the real tracks.

I'll see what i can do about getting you a paz screenshot, but waves is acting up on me right now, maybe i'll doi it with wavelab.....once again thanks for the props
