| Acoustic folk Recorded this yesterday with 5 mics and suprisingly few phase issues: stereo rode nt5's ORTF > octopre > Pulsar II card > nuendo Kels HM 1 over the shoulder > JOe meek VC 1 Kels HM 1 @12 fret > Joe meek VC 1 Microtech UMT70 on sound hole> octopre AT 4033 for voice (recorded after the guitar) Used the Steinberg Room Works reverb for this rough mix and just might keep it. Is there a better mic for this kind of voice? It is on the thin side and a little reedy, but it could be his performance (a little forced). FB |

| OK, here we go: - i like the vocal performance - i want a better guitar performance - i want reverb on the vox - i want delays on the vox - i want some percussion as an extra and i DON`T like songs that fade out that soon! Can you take this? ![]()

The guitar performance is a done deal... no going back. This is another "demo on the cheap" session so there you go. Reverb on voice is in the next version. Delays? maybe on a word here and there but you know, let's be reasonable... Percusion would be an extra alright. No money; No candy little boy .THanks for listening, FB

Hey dim, More warmth is coming in the next mix as I turned up the UMT70 on the sound hole. No low end was cut or added, same for the hi end. You're listening to the mics all at the same level! Thanks for your ears, FB

| I think it sounds fine assuming that's the sound you were going for. Agree about the fade.

Yeah, I guess that's a problem, I'm not really sure what sound to go for. Listening to the new Neil Young and that is a very meaty sound (warm like a country bed on a winter night! this stuff makes me homesick for the west, but I come from the east!) think I'm in for a drasticly different mix... The fade is because the up load wouldn't accept the full version. I'll make a long fade next time. FB

| This is a new direction for sure maybe too drastic. Not feeling very much like reverb today so it's kept very minimal on all except "belle". All three songs are same session, same setup. mixed in more UMT70 and added some bottom (2 db @425hz makesit a little tubby). It will never sound like NY of course, but a little Bruce Cockburn is there on "Try so hard" FB |

| Try So Hard is very good, Famerbrown. For my money it shows great promise as a song and as a performance. I don't care for the eq treatment or the verb, to be frank, but I'm really drawn into the song and to your delivery. Yes, it does remind me of Bruce. Excellent. John- |

| Thanks for listening guys, but lets get one thing clear, I AM NOT the artist just the recordist/mixer! I will pass your compliments on to the artist and he will be pleased to hear them. Reverb on Belle is starting to bug me! must re do this one... but again it's another 120 dollar demo deal and I try to keep the hours down as much as I can. The rest will stay as they are. Cheary bye, FB |

thanks for the comments. I'm not the artist, just the recordist and mixer, (IOW I did all the stuff you don't like about the song!) While I can see problems with 'belle' I kinda liked the reverb on 'so hard' and "majestic" with early reflections on guitar and light room on the voice, but to each his own. "So hard " will stay as it is for now because it's a limited budget thing, but if you could be more specific about the verb/eq, I'm listening. I'll pass your compliments along to the artist. Thanks for listening, FB
