Mix - Critique and Comments

Hey all, was hoping to get some feedback on a new mix. There are some timing issues, but they aren't a great big deal since it's a project for school.

Thanks!

Granted I'm not in my studio...I'm listening through headphones.

I think the mix doesn't sound bad...yes the timing is an issue...and the vocals need some tuning. Overall it's pretty good. Nice space for the vocals...they seem to sit decently in the mix.

The drums are really dry...but I think it suits the song pretty well. Overlal pretty cool.

It has a very old school vibe about the mix...any other comments would just be nit picking.

peace,

Thanks for the response!

Yeah, my drumming and singing could be way better, I won't argue with you at all on that.

Thanks for the compliments on the vocal space, though.

I'm not sure why, but I tend to lean toward dryer drums, except for the snare a lot.

Old school... I like that .

Thanks, I'll take that useful comment into consideration.

I think the timing issues are big. It is hard to listen to.

Very nice electric guitar sounds here. Overall sensibilities are good as well. The equal weight of beats 2 & 3 in each 3:4 measure probably draws attention to the uneveness of the meter.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It's nice to know what I'm doing right and wrong. I've been trying my hand at this stuff for a couple of years now, and I know there's always room for improvement.

I like the mix overall. It shows a definite sensibility in its vibe. The drums and bass glue quite nicely. The timing issues are the obvious killer, but you know this.

It's not an overly complicated rhythm part though... editing should be rather easy. Have you tried any?

I think the stereo acoustics could come down a bit.

Were the drum overheads recorded mono? If not, they could maybe be spread out a bit somehow?

Nice work overall.

I think the kick drum somehow disagrees with the acoustic guitars. It just doesn't sound right to me. It might just be the timing though..

The cymbals are also too low in the mix imo, and might need some brightening. Also, the snare seems to be drowned out in some parts

It's fine as it sits. There are plenty of good records that share the vocal and drum issues. So, you like it, rock on.

I wouldn't touch a thing, I love it! Seriously...

Tons of spirit and emotion, it sounds real.

Its got some wonky timing things for sure, but it just gives it a youthful charm kind of thing in this case. Don't get rid of it!

Great job, I'm jealous

Re-do the drums.
The vox need a lot of help, too.
Do it now.

It's the bass guitar. They're just slightly off each other, and it sounds like there's a delay on the kick in places, especially the beginning of the song.

The mix is what it is. Only thing I "hate" is the verb on the vox. It's brittle.

The performance could be a lot better, especially in the chorus, and the vox are out of tune, and I think quite a bit of the guitars are too, but who cares, this is for a school project.

If I were you I'd change the verb on the vox, line up the bass with the kick (this will take an hour or 2 of editing, but will pay off big time in the end), see if you can re-track the acoustic guitars better (timing) and then turn it in.
