Mix/Song Advice

I just finished this song I wrote and recorded this all myself. It gets hard to be objective when you do everything. (my girlfriend is tonedef)

Any mixing/song input would be greatly appreciated.

Another Lonely Day (In the Rain) 24bit 48hz wav

Another Lonely Day (In the Rain) mp3 for connection deprived

Sounds great to me. Kick could lock a little better with the bass, but whatever. Maybe a touch punchier on the kick too....

Locking the kick to the bass could be done by sliding the kick's waveform to line them up with the bass. I've done it many times. If your using tape, good luck.

As for the punchyness..this comes from some tricky compression work. I can't tell you what settings to use, it's a lot different for every kick. I usually start with 40ms attack and a release of 150ms or so.....tweak to taste. Play with the settings until you hear it...it'll come to you. A nice boost around 80-120hz would help also.

Nice song! Can you give us some insight into what kind of set up was used for recording this...did you do it out of a homestudio set-up or...and also what equipment/signal-path was used. How much was done in the box? What DAW do you use. Again, I like the song...well structured and a nice feel to it. The drums need work but I'm NOT the guy to talk to about that...

This was recorded in my spare room using logic express 7.1
here is the equipment used.

Mac Dual 2 gig G5
RME 9632 sound card
GT Brick Preamp
AT4047 (used for everything)
SP B1 used as stereo acoustic mic with a presonus tube pre
altiverb for reverbs
GPO for strings

100 percent in the box and you can tell as it sounds sterile to me
compared to some other stuff I"ve recorded out of the box. But when I do everything my self that is the trade off I guess.

Very nice! It reminds me much on "Grzili Adams" theme song! Otherwise many Eagles fillings in there...
A bit sterille from time to time- as you said
The bass and kick works ok to me (computer speakers)
oh, yeah maybe a would work on the drum room a bit more - just a thought.
What are the strings?!

Nice work!
