advice on this acoustic guitar recording please! Hi slutz Please can you give me some advice on these guitar recordings. It's a steel string acoustic, finger picking style. #1 is unprocessed, rhode nt1 pointing towards the bridge + studio projects c1 pointing at the end of the neck by the sound hole panned hard L+R respectively (or vice versa don't quite remember). To me this doesn't sound very good, one string is particularly resonant, the top is a bit weedy. #2 is processed through Wave Ren Comp, + Logic fatEQ +4db at 4khz, -10db at 130hz. This is to sit in the mix, but does it sound a bit thin on its own? Should I try some multiband cmp Waves C4 on it? Are people using multiband cmp on acoustic guitar? I tried a little mb cmp but it wasn't as warm as the renaissance . Thanks for the advice : )

you may be a little to thin, but i think your in the right area. try using a tight Q to pull out that scratchy frequency up the top. that should help to smooth it out. sounds good mate

Sounds nice, but i agree that it is a little thin. Maybe try reducing the amount of eq on the lower end a little to fatten it up a tad.

thanks for the replies. does the original recording sound ok to you in terms of mic position / brightness - is this what you'd expect an unprocessed recording to sound like? also on the processed version, I've double tracked it - do you think this makes it sound too busy? Should I be able to get a thick enough sound from one recording? thanks very much

The untreated track sounds very usable. There's nothing wrong with it... It is slightly bright for my liking but its certianly not bad. I really like the sound of it double tracked... Whether or not its too busy depends on the final mix (thats if you are adding extra tracks, etc).
