| Gear Head | This is my very first post on gearslutz... I just blew my very last cash on a matched 414 XLII-pair, so i'm posting in gear forums on a saturday night (all-play-and-no-work session booked in the morning). I'd like to hear what you all think of this little demo. It's definitely a first for me with this retro rock trio-outfit: Guitar, drums and vocals cut live, a few overdubs (lead-guitar, tambourine, backing vocals). NO BASS!!! Is this a hopeless case? Does the track come off as lacking low end? Do people who listen to rock music have subwoofers, anyway (I certainly don't know anyone who does, except myself)? BTW do you like the band? They won't be reading this, but I'll forward anything positive (that's my job), so just spill the beans! Oh this is a PT Le ITB mix w/ UAD-1 and a TC M-one for reverb/delay |

It has zero low-end here...honestly. Mids and top only. Quote:

| Need bass! I also tracked 3 piece hardcore band without a bass player who thought they where being all cool and new, but basically it just sucked and the lack of bass left me cold all day. this band needs either a huge boomy kik and or a lot of lows on the guitar to try to have at least something rumbling down there. ![]()

| I like the song and the dirty attitude. But they do need a bass, maybe even a liŽl distorted or something. Cheers, Bill |

| Yeah, it needs bass. The only other way to get by would be to make the bass drum huge and mix the guitar back a little. I can't think of another way to make a duo sound monstrous.

| Gear Head | but how!? I know the white stripes pull it off, but how!? None of their duo stuff has much low end, yet no-one's really complaining. I guess it must the brilliant songwriting. Anyway here's another take on the mix. A lot more rumble and a lot less verb. I just wish i had found out about using the avalon u5 as a kick-mic pre before tracking these guys... |

| aparently (and I can't back this up) the white stripes often do bass tracks on their album and have them running realy low... I havent realy listened to see if this is true though |
