recording of my metal band

I'm not too keen on this, I can't seem to get my guitars to sound like I want them. I think it's down to my cabinet but I can't afford anything else at the moment. This was all recorded in my spare bedroom..

I await your critique

Try some different mic positions, one inch of change makes a different sound. And try different mics.

just a thought.

I'm waiting on a sennheiser MD421 N to arrive, hopefully that will help out a bit as I just can't get the sound I want with an SM57

thanks for listening :)

I would first jump all over improving the bass which really shows weakness (not so much the tone of it but the strength, IMVHO) right after the 3:00 mark. I'm a stickler for bass.

Overall I like it a lot.

I would go to the drums straight off, i think the guitars can pass for some dirty stuff, it's just those dull roomy drums that kill it for me.

Thanks for listening guys, sorry for making you spill your hot coffee but at least the dynamics work :)

I know what you mean about the bass, my bassist doesn't have much confidence in his playing sometimes which I don't understand as he is actually a good bassist.

Nothing much I can do at the moment regarding the room, I haven't got the money to do much really. I can't afford to purchase any treatment, although I am looking at getting some slabs of acoustic mineral wool (uk version of 703 I think) not sure where the best placing for it is though.

I Like the song. Sounds like a metal epic.
If you want a sharper meatier guitar tone, you're gonna have to have access to the speaker without any grill material in the way. A 57 will do the trick, you just have to get close enough to the speaker. With headphones on, have someone else play your guitar while you SLOWLY move the mic around the surface of the speaker until you find what you want. Don't be afraid to put the mic almost touching the material. When you get with a 1/4 inch, you'll hear what I mean. Good luck
