New gear on this mix. Comments?

This is one of the first recordings i've done since I got my Rosetta 800 and Blue Kiwi mic. I think it's my best work so far.

I will entertain details if you're curious.

Blue Kiwi sounds ****ing great! Are those live drums or samples? Vocals and piano sound awesome too

Toms are natural. Just strip silenced with fades. Kick and snare are sampled with the kit. No canned samples. 4 different velocities on the snare.

My only issue about the piano is that I got the midi tracks from the client and they were quantized 100% and the velocities were also altered. I plan on redoing the piano stuff.

Vox is definitely the Kiwi. Also used the Kiwi on the room in omni.

Think I should give the whole mix a 100hz bump? I'm afraid I'll be doing the "mastering" on this, something I hate doing.

I'll spill my gutz to ya'll slutz.

Recording chain:

Kick: Audix D6 > Great River me1nv > Wunder EQ > Smart C2 > 003 coverters. Once in the box, it is tweaked and sent out to distressor and back in.

Snare top: Beyerdynamic m201 top > Great River me1nv > Rosetta 800. Once in the box, it is SSL EQ > Distressor and back in.

Snare bottom: I experimented on this track. Used SM-81. It was a bad idea. The drummer was a heavy hitter and the 81 could not take the SPL. The negative portion of the wave is clipped. It still sounded usable though. SM-81 > Presonus Digimax > Rosetta 800. ITB, it's SSL E channel. Eq'ed, compressed. No gate. Phase flipped.

Tom1: Sennheiser 421 > Presonus Digimax > Rosetta 800. SSL channel plug

Tom2: same as tom1

hats: AKG c1000s > Presonus Digimax > ashly 31 band > R800 > Distressor

ride: AKG c1000s > 003

Room: Kiwi > 003 > Distressor

Overheads: AT4033 > Toft AFC2 > API 2500 plug

Bass: P-bass > Me1nv > distressor

Guitars were recorded DI into Cubase by the client. I re-amped them with Radial Xamp at my studio. They're going out the Rosetta into a few different amps > Sennheiser e906 > me1nv > ashly 31 band > distressor > Rosetta 800. No EQ was added, mostly subtracted in the form of high pass, and low pass and a surgical cut in the harsh range.

Guitar1: Framus Dragon Top > Marshall 1960a
Guitar2: Same as guitar1, different channel
GuitarLead: Framus Ruby Riot 2 x 12 combo. Greenback
GuitarSemiCrunch: Vox AC30

Vox: Main vox are going Kiwi > me1nv > distressor > R800. ITB, I'm using SSL G eq > deesser > L1

Backing Vox: most of the backing vox is Kiwi > me1nv > distressor. But slammed and Dist3 engaged. No processing ITB.

Lofi vox: Just HP filter ITB and the Massey tape plug.

All midi stuff is NI Kontakt.

Master buss: SSL Comp. CLA setting with no analog. 4 db at most.

I made some mix changes and added some stuff. This is probably the final mix. I also shortened the song from 3:45 to 3:22.

I changed the compression a little on the snare so the decay is longer.
