Is this too brown?

Here's me mixing (and playing drums) but I didn't record it. Basics (drums, guitar, hammond organ/bass) done at a local cheap/dead late night room. Everything else tracked by the singer at home.

Deader then what I'm used to recording (I'm at a big old church with lots of wood and high ceilings), but that might suit the style. I'd like a reality check on my mix.

Thanks, yo!

god damn amazing! the song is great, really my style. does the band listen to a lot of Soulive, Galactic, MMW? I really dig the vocal sound, what did you do to attain that at the mixing stage? Also a lot of the drum fills where you have the cowbell playing sound quite nice. Everything overall sounds great man, good job.

edit: i just checked out your studio. wow, looks like an amazing place! i'd def. like to check it out sometime!!!

Thanks, Musicfuelz.

The keyboard player is in an organ trio called Wingnut that has been compared favorably to MMW. A little more adventurous, though (not always for the better). I produced their last two studio records.

I went searching for a vocal distortion, and ended up sticking with the first thing I found. The Amp Farm "Bassman" (uh, not quite....) preset that comes up on our system as the default. I haven't heard from the singer whether or not he digs it.

Thanks for your kind comments. I would have responded sooner but I was holding out for more posts. I guess if you can't say something nice....

Matt.
