| Peluso 2251 - Bluegrass vocal? Hey guys I have a short clip of a bare track song on my new bluegrass album. All but the bass was recorded through an API pre and a peluso 2251. Before I do the rest of the overdubs (fiddle- mandolin, banjo) I wanted to get some feedback from you guys and see what you think about the Peluso on my vocal. I had to crank some high mids on the UAD 1073 to get a little bite on the track. The Peluso is smooth but I am wandering if it is what I need for my main vocal? Looking for that automatic cut with the mic. Was thinking about the Peluso 2247? Anyway attached is the small clip. |

| Whatever you had to do to get it there, that vocal sounds fantastic. A 2247 isn't as open as the 22 251, but the presence and air in this track is terrific, at least on my computer speakers. A 2247LE has a really nice ability to cut through a mix (it's what I like to use), but jeez I really like this. I worked in a studio for years before the inexpensive boutique mic revolution. We had C12s, U47s, and 6(!) original ELAM 251s and most of the visiting engineers eq'd voicals, fussed with preamps, wrestled with sibilance, etc etc... I'm not talking about this thread specifically, but I get the impression sometimes on these forums that everybody wants to buy the perfect mic for everything, and if it isn't right there as soon as you turn it on there's some huge problem. It seemed like back then there was a few classic mics that everyone trusted and if they weren't working, it was the engineer's problem. Now it's the mic or the preamp or the golf clubs! You're doing a great job! (Your voice is more important than the mic anyway, innit? That's probably what I really like.) |

| Thanks rbreen for your kind words. I guess your right, sometimes we can choose the wrong battles in the production stage. I guess I will proceed with production then! ![]() |

| Nice post rbreen! Actually a nice reply from Stress too. Golf clubs and choosing your battles, good one. Stresstour will have to listen when I get home but sounds like some good advice anyway and you know you're on your way! Take care, R.
