Arrow I like my mix, but the vocals are nasty: how to solve? Please help!

Hi fellow sluts,

I am mixing a new project and i think the overall sound of the mix is going in the right direction. However, the vocals have a very nasty "fff-sound" and heavy "sss'es" and i have trouble making it right with de-essing and eq

So my questions to you are:

- Is my mix going in the right direction?

- Does anyone of you know how to solve my vocal problem? It would be of great help because i have no clue how to get this away without compromising the vocal.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!

btw: everything is recorded and mixed (ITB) in my converted bedroom.

Sorry, it's not what you expect to hear, but could you tell me which mic have you used to record vocals?

I think the mix is just too bright.

a charter oak 538 with a pacifica.

I have used it for a ballad in near onmi mode and it sounded awesome. However i think it is indeed not as suitable for more uptempo pop-rock songs with more agressive singing.........

Anybody any more opinions? it will be highly appreciated, especially on the mix and vocals!

I hear it
but it doesnt really bother me
I think its just the vocalist more than the equip or method.

my two cents

Wo0d hit it right on for me. It doesn't bother me at all! For what my opinion's worth... ;) Singer reminds me a touch of Jeff Lynne. Really nice song!

Sorry I can't give you the advice you're looking for, but I really like it just the way it is!

sounds like your sssss are in the 7k area. play with a surgical plug like waves Q or something else that goes really narrow and get in with a surgical cut.

Thank you all very much for your replies!!! they were very helpful.

I solved the problem with a TC's Dynamic EQ with very small notches on 7.1khz and 10.5khz and only if the treshold was passed it hits in, worked quite well i must admit!

That's what I'm hearing also. 7-8K. Try taking out about 3-4 dB @8k with a Q of about 4 on the vocal track.
