A couple mixes...

I'm working on an EP with a buddy of mine, and these are two of the first mixes.

No lead vocals (back ups are in there though).

This is the first stuff I've ever really mixed. Pro Tools 6.4, tracked in a good home studio (neuman, royer, shure, distressor, api, vintech - good gear).

Thanks!

tones sound good from what i can tell. while i'm not a fan of slamcrush mastering, for pre-masters even, these sound like they were printed very very low, like maybe -14 - 16db? i had to crank my player on the computer to full and it was still very low.nice warm tones overall though

Sounds very nice and warm. It could be a little louder and the stereo could be a little wider. Also it could bite more. Have to hear it with vox. But it sounds balanced and nice. Good work.

Thanks for the feedback. I realized it's a little soft, but I wasn't at my DAW when I uploaded these. They're just unmastered bounce downs to give to my buddy, so the final cuts will def. get some gain.

When you say make the stereo image wider, do you have any tips for doing that? Like I said, I'm new at this. Maybe dupe a guitar track, nudge it about .001 or so and pitch it off just a fraction, and then hard pan em (or even keep em centered but phase the dupe)? That kind of thing?

As far as bite is concerned, I'm def. having some trouble with getting pop from the drums the way I'd like. Everything is EQed and compressed, but I'm still just not getting that punch. From the girls either, for that matter. They sit well in the mix, but they don't really contribute the kick that I'd like them to. Any tips?
