Im trying to teach myself to mix some vocals better and im looking for some tips. Id be happy to ruturn the favour if you leave a link and happy to take any advice.

If you want to comment on the song aswell (not taking the mixing into concideration) im also happy to take suggestions

My vocal chain was SM7b> jlm ba2> mmp 2 (convertor only) >soundcard>daw.

Are you using a pop filter because your esses are a bit harsh... Try de-essing a bit more.

the sibilance issues on this song must have been induced by adding high shelf and excessive compression to accentuate it? the sm7 is one of the least sibilant mic's i know of and while i haven't used the jlm pre, it's design doesn't seem to lend itself to be excessive in the top end? something is happening to add all the "ssss" in hear, that isn't inherent i think

I was trying to bost the top end of the mic. It sounded good through my monitors, but i just listened through head phones, and yeh, it does have some esssss issues doesnt it . I was thinking that i shouldnt have really boosted the 10khz range, but thought it sounded alright. When i rerecord the whole song i'll make sure im easier on boosting the top end. The compression was fairly light, at 3:1

Cheers guys, Anything to add apart form the sibilance issues or is it alright apart from that?

Song sounds pretty good to me! Maybe try and do something with the bass line to give the groove a little more definition.
