Unhappy Vocal Track(7 seconds)ARGGHGHHHG

Hey guys, I have these shitty monitors here(Alesis Mk1 Active), in a really shitty bare room, no treatment.

I just wanted to make sure these vox don't sound like complete ass...

I used Neve 1084 as pre, m147 as mic...

Any comments suggestions to how shitty it is let me know :p

Thanks.

and

Would it be smart to use a compressor inside of protools(recorded compression, not as an insert), to make up for the compressor i don't have? Or should I just wait till later on?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

there's slight distortion near the end...

Other than that.......how the vocals sound will vary depending on the mix...

You shouldn't solo something and decide whether it sounds good or not......

Honestly I think it's a little harsh sounding........but who knows...it might work in the mix perfectly.....

Sounds good to me...makes me want an m147... ;)

Interesting about the harsh comment...I hear it as relatively dark compared to most mics touting themselves as "vocal" mics these days. Certainly less strident upper mids than 90% of commercial music I buy.
