Soul/R&B/?

Strugglin' with this cut a bit mix wise and arrangment. I've reworked it and reworked it. I've walked away from it and came back and redone it about 5 times. This is the latest version.

Could use a fresh ear because at this point, I'm sick of it.

this is an interesting song, very complex, and many crossover elements, also some latin jazz. I like to listen such music.

it's true, that you need to get a good distance, or make a 100 songs like this, to find your way to top level perfection. good luck! you are on the way.

I would start to cut all reverbs (but keep the effect/delay design where it is a musical element on its own and adding to the "content"), and then find the strong and the weak elements. maybe some voice doubling, see the threads about the "mult" technologies.
at the end, add a little room and delay again, to make it smooth.
muting effects is a strong method to get rid of the blindness and tired ears.

currently, the reverb makes it dull.

another thing, the bass is not too much like "RnB", so be it (and I like it), but you could try a softer colour with it. it is too much "soloing". I would use a 2-band compressor and _compress_ just the lower bands, and _limit_ the sharp HF peaks only somewhat.

Thanks for that feedback.
That's some stuff that I will experiment with!
It does get dull to me as well. Perhaps, that's why I grow tired of it.
Thanks!
