Complete Newbie Mix

Hello, I have been working on a "faux" recod lable (i.e. just trying to record some bands and have fun LOL) we have some songs online but the big thing Im trying to do right now is get the instruments to sound better. I have been working with my "faux" punk band (read: sucky) and I relize the song/band members atrnt the greatest, but Im asking you guys about this thing sound wise.

This is recorded in my basement with basically NO sound treatment. Cheap drum mic set, Pod Pro XT for the guitar and an el chepo Samson (yeah, go ahead and laugh) condensor on the vocals.

I think that the guitar needs more "balls". I recorded these with preset amp sounds with two tracks paned hard left and hard right respectively.

ANY constructive critisism would be apprciated.

P.S. if you are interested, all the songs I have put online are at this link..any critisism is appreciated..

http://www.bsideoffense.com\ click "music" and yeah the site sucks too LOL :)

Thanks

Very rough sounding....
Needs more kick, snare...basicallly needs more of everything but vocals. Reminds me of real old Sublime recordings.
Nice song though....

Is there a kick drum? A snare drum? All I hear is cymbals:
"shshshshshshshshshshshshshshshgsh"

On another note, BUSTICLES RULE!

geobreeder13,
I used the PSP master EQ and put alot more bass into it...about 5-6 dB going from about 150 hz and below, then a low cut at 30-40 hz, the standard setting. I adjusted the bass Q to take some of the low mids too...around 400-500 hz for warmth.

Think I gave it 1 dB..or less at 4,5 kHz with a Q covering down to about 2 kHz or something and then a treble roll off from I think 16 kHz smoothly to 20 kHz to make it more easy to the ears.

After the EQ I used a PSP Vintage Warmer at a middle level master recording setting (the high level was too hot) lowered in input to compensate the high output level coming from the EQ....which I also had put down...but not much enough....just played with the file in a fast way for fun, because I love good punk rock.

Hans
