| Way cool. Black Sabbath meets Living Colour meets Korn. The only thing I hear that I don't like are the cymbals. They sound a bit thin to my stone ears. Nice Job. |

| thanks axeman, I agree that the cymbals came out a bit thin. The overheads were XY from on front of the kit using MXL 603s. I shoulda experimented more for a fuller sound, but I'm still pretty happy.

| lemme guess...the guitars sound cloudy and muddy. I use an octaver--->distortion effect--->amp; and it is so hard to capture the sound that is actually coming out of the amp. Should have had an off-axis LDC to capture the low-end more meticulously. I think I actually used a D112 for the L guitar, and 421 for R guitar. Whenever the song goes to just guitar, what u are hearing is the scratch guitar re-amped and miked from across the room. Is hat the weirdness you are hearing? Excuses, excuses.... ![]()

| I dig it, I like the reamped sound on that break. cool effect for the part maybe the guitars just seem like they need to be bigger. They don't sound muddy just smaller than they should is that one track in stereo or two panned hard? Unless you're going for the rage type low gain 800 thing I like the song though, which is the important thing

| The gtrs are two seperate takes/mics/tracks panned 75% L and R. Maybe I should just turn them up in the mix a bit, while lowering the 330hz boost I had added to them initially while mixing....

| uh huh Randy- Ijust listened to CINCINNATI on my computer speakers and you are way right! The whole mix lacks a certain shimmer and is loaded down with "sludge" at times. On my DAW it sounds huge, crisp and detailed. What frequencies do you think I should look into erradicating (mostly from guitar and 2-buss). I was gonna dip from 100hz to about 600hz by 3db or so.... UPDATE; actually I'm thinking 125hz-250hz are the offenders...

Some of it seems to be really low end....like under 80hz......then there's some around the 120-150hz area........might wanna check....not sure if 200hz or more is going to affect things.....but wouldn't hurt to try. I'd suggest doing a couple eq's......a high pass filter around 50hz....drop a db or 2 around 80-90hz with a low shelf....and cut around the 120-150 region untill it sounds better......... also wouldn't hurt to bring up a little mid range in the guitars.......but that's a preference thing....... Sounds like your due for some bass traps in your cr......

| Damn right that I need some bass traps! Here is a HAR-BAL print out of the average frequency content in CINCINNATI vs. track 3 of some KORN album. Cincinnati's curve is the one w/ the peaks at 230hz and 4k. EDIT- attached to next post...ooops! Doesn't tell me much other than I used 4k to boost the click on the kick and that I have way too much going on at under 30Hz, at 45HZ, at 65Hz, 220hz and not enough from 12k and up! Note: I know this graph isn't a perfect pic of what is being heard, but helps to doublecheck irregularities. I think I will add more guitar midrange/treb (going for definition and realism....not buzziness) and do some Eq-ing on my 2-buss. Perhaps a tiny dip at 65 hz, dip at 220 hz and a shelf dip<35Hz, plus shelf boost at >12k. Wadda ya think?

| here is the remaster.... re EQed the guitars and turned them up also did some EQing on the 2buss... shelfed off <40Hz, shelfed up 12k and up, also boosted by .5db at 1.6k, and dipped (wide Q) somewhere near 190Hz....

| Lives for gear | There you go.............. Try cutting some 400-600K...see if you can kill some of that room sound........ Now if you could just get that drummer to hit his snare.......you'd be allright.....

| I was re-recording the guitars for the song and will post the new guitar mix when I finish it. May take a few days though... The song was originally cut with a D112 on the left? and a 421 on the right....After testing almost all of my mics out, it look as though I may just do one replacement track of D112 to complement the older one. I've improved the tone a bit by moving the mic back a few inches and having it more off-axis than before. Also getting some decent tones out of my MXL2001 off axis, but not sure it it is adding enough to include...I really wish I had a ribbon to mess with at this point, like a Royer 121 or Coles 4038....

| Thanks Dim! I think the previous muddiness could be attributed to the aaardvark Q-10's pres/DAs, and/OR me desperatly needing bass traps in the live room...Peace! ![]()
