you're seriously telling me that's BFD and Amplitube!! Man, you've got some serious mixing skills! Great songwriting also.

Was the amplitube on a guitar DI or a microphone/Amp or both?
& which BFD kit was it? Be great to know.

Always did wonder if it's possible to make something pro sounding with these tools, i think you've answered my question! great stuff!

thanks sir.

I mixed and matched some different parts of kits. not really sure which ones. I do remember though that the ride is the 'slingerland' ride. . . .it was the only one that gets a bit 'washy' when hit hard.

the guitar/bass was all direct through an averill 312 module. parts are all punched in and out, as i was just using it as a writing tool, but yes. . . you can get some decent results with these tools, you just need to know what you want to hear i guess.

Way to much reverb on the drums IMO, sound like you recorded it in your Bathroom

I don't think i'll put any more time into the mix, as it's just a songwriting demo, and we'll be putting it on the record we'll be tracking in about a month. . .which thankfully i won't be engineering. I do agree though, about the drums, especially the snare being a bit too 'roomy'.

I really like this mix to be honest with you. Yeah, there is a lot of reverb, but who cares? It suits the song.

What was your mixing process like? I am still trying to get the BFD kicks and snares to balance right in the mix. You have any recollection of where you were peaking them at after running through plugs ?

Thanks methlab,

I do know that i just used bfd 'stereo' and put the waves ssl comp, and ssl eq on it, hi-pass at 20hz, and boosting 2-3db at 8khz. I wasn't peaking too much within BFD, and don't remember how hot i was running that channel, but did have tracks, and tritones colortone free on the masterbuss when i bounced. bfd definitely requires a bit of a bump in the treble, especially if you're using mostly the direct samples.
