| How to promote your music? I feel like I am finally putting out some music that I believe in and believe is good enough to push and try to get some exposure on (after 20 years). I have a MySpace page, my own web page, and have over 5000 friends, posted my albums on newsgroups, released press releases for the last album for PR.COM. With all this done, I still feel like I am getting nowhere. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to call attention to my music? I know its the classic question everyone asks and given the state of the economy and music industry, I know its extremely difficult these days. With that said, I would at least like to give it a shot and try my best so I can say I gave it everything whether anything happens or not. I am pretty sure most artists on here can feel what I am saying. Can someone give me some ideas on how to promote my music? Maybe something I haven't tried yet, haven't thought about. I have a little money I could throw into promotion so please don't rule any ideas out. I just didn't grow up with the right people in the hood who ever broke into the business. If I did, I would use those connections. The problem is I just don't have those connections. Thanks in advance. I have attached the latest song I recorded so you guys maybe can tell me if I suck and am not worth even promoting. Thanks. |

| Lives for gear | the song would be 1000 times better without the Autotune. The AUtotune is wobbling during the verses. Please turn that off! Good tune though. I dig the beat alot.

| Lives for gear | to be honest, the track, hook included doesn't even need the autotune at all.

| The vocals were not recorded very well. They are dull and lifeless. Try another mic and experiment with the eq untill you get it.

| back on topic... the best way to get your music to the people is to get yourself booked for as many shows as possible... hit up all the hip hop promoters in your area and perform at their shows, weekly nights, etc... try to grow a local following. post pictures/videos of your shows on your website and myspace, build some hype. then it's time for a road trip. get one or two of your buddies together to dj and help with equipment, etc... pack up the car and hit the road. try to get bookings in as many cities as possible (myspace helps a lot in this respect, especially if promoters can check out what your shows are like... ie. pics/videos). take a couple weeks driving from town to town and performing in front of people. sell cd's at the shows, promote your myspace page, website, merchandise, etc... it's hard to get your music out there, but the one common aspect of everyone i know that has broken through, in one way or another, is a heavy schedule of performing and touring. ps. nice track.. but definitely lose the autotune during the verses.. it's cool on the hook though... less is more :) peace. |

| sup man your track has really good energy, and the harmonies in the background throughout are really nice. One thing I think you need to work on is S P A C E. By that, I mean don't make it boring... It can be the exact same length. But it just needs room to breathe here and there, you know? Maybe introduce a new little melody hook that works and flows. You just have to vary your material a little bit more. That's my opinion. But listening to your track for me, while high energy and pleasing, is a little bit fatiguing. This could be relieved a bit, I think. Do you know what I'm sayin? agreed about the autotuner. to me it is like a trick these days. I miss old school rap (like 80s style) peace, David ps: your music is worth promoting. you put love into it, share it. |

| A mySpace page is like a phone book listing. A good thing to have but it isn't real exposure or promotion. Playing live to a room full of your friends and supporters is where everybody begins. Then it's about attracting more supporters until you need a bigger venue to hold them all. The whole industry has always operated almost entirely on word-of-mouth. It's amazing how many people don't seem to understand this and fail to begin at the beginning. |

| Lives for gear | Definitely kill off that autotune effect on that song... Before I started listening - I thought it'd be Celtic music. Then I saw it was hiphop and figured it'd be standard rhyming with the beats being bagpipe bangers. So maybe a branding issue? Just throwing out the random thought. Now, as for the music in general, I think the beats are nice - quite chill and enjoyable to me. |
