Lightbulb Popband recording with real cello and violin , opinions ?

Here's a recording of a Dutch popband I did a long time ago, the wanted to use keyboards but I insisted on getting a real cello and violin since I never recorded those instruments for real.
It was all caught on tape on a rainy afternoon.
The violin player wasnt too good but still it sounded cool and the cello player was amazing all one take.
It was this bands first real recording and the first time I produced a pop record.

To me the over all impression is that it sounds all right even though I personally wouldn't use that much reverb. Especially on the vocal track. And like you mentioned the violin isn't exactly 100% (some intonation issues).

Also I find the instrumental part at around 2:00 somewhat pointless nothing really happens, but I suppose you just wanted feedback on the mix.

In conclusion, it's a pretty good mix for being the first time you record a pop group.

Thanks for the feedback Chris,
Yeah, to me its still a pretty okay mix , considering its the first time doing a band like this.
I liked the idea of using a real cello and violin even though the violin isn't exactly 100% it was great to play around with mics and see what would work best ,and... the result is pretty good.
The reverb ads a bit of a 70's Dutch pop character to it (and also the singer wasnt really that good...it helped a bit)
You are right about the arrangements , for this song it was totally the bands choice.
Cheers,

Paul
