Acoustic tune

A young band. I kind of tried to give this a new Simon and Garfunkel twist on this.

Sounds like a hit to me - but I would go for a more simple and pure sound... the piano player is not that good on this song... The percussion is too much in the face... The guitar is too thin and bright.

Great song not so good production... I think the production kills the song - soundwise but still good. But not good in my vintage ears(?)

Hey, great track! I agree with the above, guitar needs more body and needs be the focus all the way through I feel. Piano may work if used a little less and again more focused hooks, maybe try it really dry and clipped.

Also not sure it needs to be so long?

To each their own. I am pretty happy with the tones. Perhaps the guitar could have a liitle more body, but it stays out of the way of the other stuff. I like what the piano player did. I guess I should of mentioned they are freshman in college. So all in all pretty good writing and playing for their age group.

Cool man -

I'm in a room(y) kind of period right now. Pretty tired of acoustic guitar tracked closed with a small condenser etc. Last song we recorded I put a sen md421 facing down on the guitar from behind where the guitarist have his head - through a siemens pre. I'm gonna try with a tube mic at home when I get my new tube pre... I want tubes inside my guitar as well.

That sounds like a good idea and nice view of the guitar. Small condensors don't bug me, but I have been trying to back them off more and at least with the Schoeps I am using it in omni quite a bit. I am guessing those Siemens pres sound pretty cool. Are they similar to a solid state Telefunken?

I think it sounds perfectly fine how it is, Ollie. Yeah the guitar is bright, but it still sounds good, and I like how it's in the background helping the song flow. Vox sound great and are the focus. I think the piano sounds good, too, and all the levels work for me.

Nice job, man

haven't tried the Telefunken but I suspect they are similar. Lots of gain and clean almost hifi and perfect for ribbons.

I totally agree. Nice job. Very sympathetic to the material. Really works as a mix for me!

I like it too.
I'm only listening thru cheap speakers, but it sounds good to me.
I like how the vocal is so upfront almost whispering and the percussion/bass fills in nicely. For some reason the first "go" seems not quite right and there is a high note in the bridge that doesn't seem to hit right either.
Other then that, I like the style and sound of the song; maybe a better/quicker ending...but now I'm just getting picky.

Great job!

edit: now that I've listened to it again, the high in the bridge sounds ok, don't know why it hit me wrong the first time around. Might of been the snare robbing the vocal some...not sure.

sounds good. i'd check the 2nd into 3rd close mic'd "ya" just after the last chorus near the end. it blooms too loud and sounds like a bad fader push. other than that and the slightly bright acoustic,it's very good.
