Smile Turkish pop duo looking for management/distro in Europe

Hi, I'm one part of a Turkish singing pop duo thats from Melbourne, Australia. We are currently looking for representation/distro/recording deal in Turkey/Europe.

Our music is half guitar based pop and half electro/dance/pop. We have a commercial sound that is very radio friendly and not offencive. Think "Savage Garden gone electro" for an idea of what were about.

please see our webpage for details, photos, email addresses etc. (sorry, its in Turkish. English is coming soon)YENI ULKE

There are sample soundclip of our music on the webpage.

our name "Yeni Ulke" means New Nation.

Heres a little about us. My name is Guy, I'm the Australian half of the group, I write, produce, engineer etc all the music. I also act as the guitarist/dj in the duo when we play live. The singer's name is Tezcan (Tez for short). He's an Australian born Turk, he sings and writes and translates lyrics for the duo. We've been really close friends for 15 years. It's only in the past 3 years I've had good enough equipment to start producing music. We have 11 tracks in good demo quality and one videoclip in AWESOME quality.

We have a showcase demo package containing the 11 tracks and the videoclip for the single "Yakma". If anyone can help us with some A&R or any contacts in Europe please let me know and I will send a copy. We are currently living in Melbourne but we are ready to pick up and head to Europe as soon as the need arises. We are serious about this project and want to take it as far as we can.

Thanks,

Guy & Tez

Well hello,
First of all I want to congratulate you both on what you are doing without trying to be Anglo-culture rock/pop stars.
It was enjoyable going through your site and listening to small clips of your tunes.
All produced well both technically and musically.
No worries I will not get into that entire Gear-Slut thing.
I am active in the World Music scene (mostly electronic/rock) primarily in the States and very much tied up to the industry in Turkey.
Will not reveal who I am, as Tezcan seems to know the industry in Turkey.

Anyway, here are some ideas I will throw around after listening to your tunes.
First off Tez has a real romantic voice but the accent in his Turkish is very dominant in his vocals.
Either re-record all the vocals with a native Turkish speaking guide at all times in the studio to correct him or practice on the pronunciation of all the lyrics until they are perfect.
This is very important in Turkey because the majority of listeners don’t like someone with an accent singing and revealing modern stories.
Imagine a Shakespeare play with a Chinese accent… (I would like it but there aren’t many like myself).

You could wash the vocals a bit more for the type of music you guys are doing.
What I mean is pull the vocal faders down a bit and blend it with the music with more filters and reverb.
This technique will make Tez’s voice a lot sexier similar to "Savage Garden”.

Last but not least, “Yeni Ulke” is not the name if you guys want to break it in Turkey.
It is a “nationalist” phrase and modern music listeners in Turkey will not like it too much.
“Yeni Ulke” sounds and means something cool in English but a totally a “nationalist” phrase in Turkish… and Turkish nationalists rarely listen to modern music.
Don’t want to bud in but just to give you an idea… how about “Yeni Dünya (New World) or Yenidünya (Japanese plum when written together)”?

Anyhow, lets keep in touch.
Best of luck to you both.

Thanks heaps for your response Lumin, you do raise some good points. Its kind of hard to know things like that (about the name) because we arn't living over there. The name can change though as its still early days. I've consulted our manager here about it and he's going to look into it. Our website has just been updated, there will also be new photos and longer audio shortely.
thanks again for your views!

teºekkür ederim
