| The actual "sound samples" themselves sound very acceptable. The cymbals leave something to be desired, but Kick and Snare sound pretty good. The problem is the programming. Everything is hard quantized, and i dont hear alot of round robin in the kick, snare, or hi hat. The beat itself, is too repetitive. Change up the pattern in the kick drum more. If BFD doesnt offer Round Robin, then use velocity changes to get slightly different sounding hits from the Snare. T |

| How many velocity levels are you using? Do you have anti-machine gun mode enabled? You need to vary the MIDI velocity and the tempo to create realism The recent Recording Magazine review raved about the cymbals in our Joe Barresi pack. You can hear demos: https://www.platinumsamples.com/JoeBarresi.html Rail

Believable? those platinum sound good but cant afford to keep forkin out dough for fake drums. (Wish I could) Thanks for the comments. B |

| You need to scoop a lot of mids out of the drums as it sounds muddy. Then add a little presences especially kick and snare (3khz~6khz, depends), and maybe a little less distortion? It sounds OK, a little too consistent but I think it's OK, at least for average listeners. Usually the music will cover it, drums are important but it's not the most important in a song. Good composition/guitar riff/vocal will make the music sounds good even with a more crappy hard quantized drum sound than this. Oh and a little tighter compression? |

| BFD drums never sound good... thats΄s a raw fact! You can try add some tape saturation in it. It could help!

It may be a fact for you. not for me. BFD sounds superb if you put some time and effort into it, like anything really. Chymer

| Base drums sounds more or less ok. The snare sounds totally bad..reminds me or some down tuned lowfi sound!! Highat is also not that good. One more tip, don't clip the mix... there are so many crackles all the time. The mixer scale doesn't have to be always red! |

| BFD can sound very real if well programmed - I've emailed the OP some tips and shown him a few tricks... 1) Enable anti-machine gun mode 2) Have a high velocity layer count 3) Vary the tempo - in Pro Tools use the Pencil Tools to draw along the tempo line to slightly vary the tempo 4) Separate the MIDI out to separate MIDI Tracks so you can ... 5) ... use RTMP's (Real Time MIDI Properties) in Pro Tools to delay or vary the velocity of some of the pieces (hat for instance) 6) Make sure your MIDI velocities aren't too close to 127 - BFD needs room above and below the velocity to randomize the velocity -- if your level is too close to 127 there's no way to randomize upwards and you're reduced the amount that the program can randomize which hit is selected 7) Use our drums (which have up to 250 velocity levels) ![]() Rail

| I was actually about to post this rough mix for critiqueing when I saw this post and thought it might be helpful to post it here as well, since I'm using the Platinum Samples Joe Baressi Evil Drums Kit 5 (I forgot which of the extra kicks/snares I used) and it had been brought up as an alternative to the stock BFD kits. Keep in mind I still need to fix some other things about the mix (probably thined out the acoustic too much and I might add an organ or something) and I'm still not sure the kit I used is really the perfect fit for the tune, but I figure it's a decent way of hearing the Evil Drums in context: Everything Fades - Rough Mix (Platinum Samples' Evil Drums in context) Hope it's somewhat helpful. |

My opinion is BFD can sound amazing with the barresi platinum samples. The stock samples in 1.5 are ok, but don't reveal the potential of the program.
