raw tracks/before mixing stage

Hey folks...

Just thought I'd share what my wife and I did last night. She sang and played acoustic and I played the electric guitar parts.

This is not mixed yet... only recorded takes. Needs editing.

drums were played by a friends of ours.

I'll play the bass later on.

On this recording, the Great River MP2-NV played a big role (vox and all guitars) along with a distressor.

Vox U99
all guitars are two AEA R84's spaced and in XY

drums also got a touch of the Recorderman overhead technique. KM184's through avalon VT-737's... main sound.

I'll be mixing it tomorrow and ready to post a sample of the mixed version.

Thanks for listening... any ideas/suggestions? Feel free to comment

Jason

Man, you Canadians ROCK! This is the best song by far I've heard in the forum. Check the rhyming in the lyrics. The melodic circle, if you do that I think you have a hit. Great song Jason. Very cool.

Hi Jason,

Fellow Sudburian here. Tune sounds good so far. A little tuning in the lead guitar track before it gets big but I'm sure you'd fix that when u mix. Who's the drummer? He plays pretty well.
Let me know if u want to add any B3 to any tracks.

thanks guys

I did some alignment in Nuendo the other day. Also, we just got the little labs IBP so it will be awesome next time we track.

Drummer is Dan Lalande from Just Cause, Inbound, and other various Sudbury projects.

will have to talk more about the B3

Thanks

Jason

Good song Jason ! Your wife has a good, smooth voice. By the way, what recording medium are you recording to ? A friend of mine has the Great River 2NV / U-99 and swears by them! He's recording to the 2480, but by passing the converters using Apogee,s. His stuff sounds great also, you and your wife keep going man, it sounds great! Good luck !

Where the vocal starts with "Within his time" it seems like the harmonic structure wants to do something else. Sounded like the drums and the vocals were pushing towards s little different feel as well. I was wondering if the lack of bass was causing this perception or if you were setting it up that way.

Very nice track. Song needs a little work but other than what I said above, I am not sure what it is and the lack of bass makes it hard to judge.

Something about the verse. The pitch does not move very much which is one of the elements of the style. That type of verse, for me, emphasizes the lyrics. It makes me listen to the lyrics closely. Then when the chorus comes in, I had a little trouble following the lyrics. I need to listen on a better system but at the moment I am having a problem with my main system that will not be fixed until tomorrow a.m.

Other than that, nice playing, singing etc.

Lotsa good talent out there!

Sounds pretty friggin good for a rough mix man!
-Acoustic sounds upfront and realistic without being overly noticable
-Vocals sound ultra-smooth
-Nice, 3-dimensional drums sound for an mp3 of a rough mix
-Good, solid tone on the lead/slide
5 stars!

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback.

this project has been on the backburner for a while! The Bass is being tracked this week actually.

This will be mixed soon and posted.

Snatchman, I also swear by the Great-River MP2-NV/ U99 combo. I'll also pass it through a Distressor and slice at least 10 db. On this track, you're hearing -17db @ 6:1 ratio during the tracking. Yeah, I went all the way and I'm not scared a bit

The Apogee AD 16X converted this track into digital to Nuendo 2

I'll get back with the finished version soon

Thanks again

Jason
