| Still testing stuff Here's a new version of one previously posted. I'm not looking for commnets on mix (because it ain't mixed) or playing. I just want to see how the guitar tone is doing. thanks. SoundClick artist: Otis Keith Watkins - page with MP3 music downloads (edit) or SoundClick artist: Otis Keith Watkins - page with MP3 music downloads I'm told the first link doesn't work but it did for GR as he was able to hear it. |

| I dig the guitar tone - maybe a little more wamth to it? I'm sucker for low end on everything - The vocals is cool really centred - I like it - maybe add a little verb/delay to it? I would put the guitar a lill more close to the middle - cos the drums feel wide... Good work on the guitar.

| It's frustrating isn't it. I sympathise so I'll give my opinion, though as a rank amateur and someone who doesn't really listen to blues, I'm not really qualified. I think the guitar sounds good and all the elements seem to sit nicely in the mix. My only criticism is that the tune is fairly generic, but i guess that's par for the course with blues. Maybe get some fractured IDM beats in there along with some dirty saw bass? Or maybe not, for that matter. ;)

| Thanks, Lew. Yes it is frustrating. And yes it is generic. This project started off as for me to have some drum and bass tracks to play slide with around the house since generally when I get a call to play these days it's for bass. Then I thought, well, I can write some lyrics in a hurry. Oh, and get a decent vocal mic, oh, and apprarently I need a preamp like everyone is using, and Cubase LE isn't really that robust is it? And.......famous last words (for drummers) "hey I wrote some songs......." and all my friends want to hear it so I wound up on this site to learn some about digital recording and STUFF! I love stuff (gear). "Maybe get some fractured IDM beats in there along with some dirty saw bass?" I just have no idea what that means. |

| Registered User | Personally, I'd brighten it up a bit and cut the bass off at 80-100h. That should bring up it's presence while giving it a little separation from the bass line. If you wanted to warm it up a little more, you could try a little multi-band compression, but I think the lower mids sound good as is. One thing I will ask is how did you mic the amp? It sounds like the mic may have been a touch too far from the speaker cone. For the blues, I wouldn't recommend it being dead center, but it could probably just be angled in a little so it's not so muddy. Hope I helped, -Michael |

| The close mic is on the grill. And like you I've never had luck mic'ing anything dead center. The LDC is back about 6'. Thanks and keep 'em coming. |

| Gutiar Tone IMVHO the tone could use some bite its just not nasty enough for my taste. Journeyofmicheal is onto something with the presence as well as a lil tweeking with compression to make the attack of each note stand out a lil more. overall it sounds good though. GL Rob |

| Not nasty enough? I think I'm on the edge of having no tone so I can't agree with you on that one. I'll keep that in mind but this is pretty much what my amp sounds like and the sound I'm after. I can get it real fuzzy but then the low end is hard to clean up. I'm starting to agree it could use a little high end. The last one I posted folks said it was brittle and sssy so I've got to find a happy medium. |
