I really like this. Great groove. I think the bass guitar is a little bottom heavy like on some of my stuff. It starts overshadowing the vocal. If you can get some more replies to confirm what I'm hearing I think it can be easily cleaned up.

Ironically, when I listened to it the advertisment at the top of the player was a song called Satan by Satanic Corpse. They need a filter.

@Old Cane: yeah, I was debating whether the bass could come down a few db's. I actually HPF'ed it at around 60-70Hz, so hopefully there isn't too much low info floating around there.

Maybe just bring the volume of the bass down a touch. It's so nice and full I hate to say that but it does seem like it's muddying up the vocal. The vocal sounds really good. Don't thin it too much though.

I'll confirm it! The bass seems loud to me as well. I would drop it down a bit to fit it in the mix. I think the snare sounds a little too reverbed as well (if that's what you were going for, then disregard) And is it just me, or is there some low end boost on the snare? Just curious!

Other than that, the vocals seem a tad pitchy in places (but nothing incredibly bad). Good mix otherwise, and a pretty cool song!

Oh yeah, I saw the Satan ad as well. *shakes head*

Thanks for the comments, definitely things I can work on. The top end of the snare was sounding a little glassy, so I tried to smooth it out a bit with some reverb and a low mid bump - maybe a tad too much surgery done - all reversible, though! You're right about the vocals, I'm gonna go back and try to punch in a few of those spots.

Well I've listened to your song a few more times and like it more with each listen. The only weak part to me is the ending. You go into a great rythm riff after the second chorus and it's crying to be either continued or a lead guitar jump in. Or maybe perhaps a lead back into that great prechorus delay/harmonic thingy to end the song.

Thanks strings! All valid obervations. My thought is that I might lack the engineering chops to keep all the elements separated if I add more guitars, but I may go and experiment... More to chew on though - I really appreciate the comments!

Something that has worked for me for adding more guitar tracks is just panning them differently, EQ slightly, and add a little room reverb to the new guitars and they should pop out. At least, it seemed to help when I had multiple layers of the same guitar tone. An easier approach might be to play around with other amps/sounds until you find something that fits naturally.

Yep, I've been reading the Owsinski book on mixing, and your suggestions are definitely in line with his. Panning, reverb and EQing (cutting and boosting tracks at the same EQ range) have helped out a lot.

It comes down to the arrangment as well - I guess I just need to work out some additional parts that play nicely with the existing ones!
