Critique this mix please

This is not a final mix. I had to convert the 11.1M file to 128 to get it to fit here. Prog rock band, but this tune has a guitar focus. Tell me it's good, tell me it sucks, tell me I'm on the right track, tell me what you think of the mix so far. Thanks guys.

Vocals and snare seem a little loud. In contrast, the guitars seem a bit quiet.

A guitar sound to die for! Keyboard might be a tat loud, voice seems thinny (but it is) the hihat sits a bit sticky in there (there is a lot of it, might wanna take some out (same for guitar btw)) snare might use some bottom.

Thanks for the replies. Keep them coming. I'm going to revisit this tune in a few days and do another mix. I wish you could hear it outside of this mp3 conversion.

cool, really nice dynamics.

hi-hat is a bit ticky,..maybe cut some of those highs a little, sounds too fake.

i really like the snare, what was your signal chain?
it could be brought down a bit though.

the keboard is a little loud,...
i think what it really needs just a little more compression on the 2-bus, possibly a harder limiter, and push the master a bit to make it really come together and crank.

it sounds great but it's just ever so slightly,..fake'ish.

Thanks, looks like everyone has a problem with the hi-hat.

Snare signal chain= Audix D1>BAE 312>Distressor

funny you mention a distressor.

i'll admit, my first time running a distressor was about 3 months ago, since then i've used it on 3 projects and i've gotten a pretty awesome snare sound each time,...usually i have to add samples and do all kinds of crap to my snares,... with the distressor though that all ended. :)

when i heard your snare i kind of thought "that sounds like my snare from session X"

long story short,...
i think i've come to the conclusion that:
my sennheiser 441, into 1176 for gain, then to distressor gives me an awesome punchy, snap, full sound.

The music is cool - reminds me of that band Saga from the 80's.

The vocals could use a little pitch correction and the singer could stand to enunciate better.

Listening on my crappy PC speakers the kick is completely lost. Can't hear the cymbals very well either. Toms don't seem to "match" the rest of the kit tonally. The bass tone is cool but it's lacking punch similar to the kick.

The snare is too loud.
Vocals are a bit loud too. Maybe you should compress a bit when downmixing.
