couple of demo songs

just wanted to see what you guys think...first one doesn't quite have a solid title yet...maybe 'lush', second one is called 'let go'. recorded, mixed, and "mastered" on a korg d1600 using mostly a beta 58, a 57, and a c3000. Had to squish it down to 128kbps just to get it up here. Don't the mind the unedited bits as these are really just working demos.

Would love to get some comments on these, guys...even if you think it's just crap...whatever you got give it to me.

nice songs for sure ... vocals are a bit lost in the effects .... music is already pretty much with effects .... would go for a more centered up-front vocal ... get a nice girl to sing to you're tracks ...

enjoy

I sort of disagree with the female vocalist. I think the vocals sound decent and real in delivery. They are most definitely a bit lost in the mix. They need to come up and they sound a bit dull.

The tracks have an interesting sound. Its the kind of thing where despite if the recording path is a bit limited (not super high quality gear) it has something that makes me want to listen. You've got quite a lot of creativity in the arrangements here.

All i'm saying is, lots of potential. Try to sharpen everything up, that seems like it could be gear related probably conversion is the culprit based on the veiling i hear, but its still good.. just perhaps bring up the vocals. The delivery is nice and i like the fact that they are not tuned but there are a couple of sour things here and there that are a bit too sour in tuning, you feel me? Vocals never have to be right on and i hate autotune but if they drift too far out in the wrong context. its distracting.

but great potential and ideas.. keep working on it and don't hide those vocals in the mix!

Hmmm this mix is interesting, but annoying after a bit. While I do like this style, I obviously agree on the vocals, except what vocals, I dont think i heard any vocals... Let me check my monitors... Yep they are working
Just kidding Im being hard on you, great interesting stuff here, just needs a lot of work, and I would be very amazed if you could get a stellar mix out of the gear that your dealing with, but here is starters... Bring the drums up higher raise the vocals slightly over that and pan the synths and other effects to make room for the changes...

phatty,

The kinda sour thing is totally what we're going for. There are quite a few layers there, most of them drifting in and out of tune, especially on the edges. We could probably (and most likely will) get a much better mix when we redo this stuff on a better medium. The amateur nature of most of the equipment does kind of hold it back, but also lends it a certain quality, no? Anyway, thanks for the criticisms and kind comments guys. Glad to hear that you're digging it.
