Hey D, I wrote you a PM back, hope you got it. ;) This tune sounds good man. The drums are pretty good imo. The drum "sounds" need more pumping up, and mixing, but the actuall parts sound good. The hi hat seems a bit static in the begining. Just a matter of changing up the velocities a bit more, thats all. The drums start to get a little too busy at the end, and they start to get too buried to hear exactly what's going on. Actually, as i listen to this, im thinking, you dont even necesarily need a hi hat part. Or well, you could just do a quarter note foot hat, and just do a more constant ghost hits on the snare. That would require some sensative programming, but i think you could do it. Im trying to think of a song to reference that has no hat, with just snare ghost notes, but i cant think of one of the top of my head, sorry. Anyway, for a ghost note snare groove, i like to compress just the snare, and use the really super low velocities, which will get brought up by the compression. I would tune that snare down a bit if you can too. Keep workin' it dude, you're doing really well! TK

Here's my take on the drum part. I used Drumkit from Hell Superior, with a Steven Slate kick drum. (bass and piano are Bosendorfer 290 and Trilogy icyw) http://michaelk101.com/todd/toddmp3/drumexample.wav I just used a quarter note hi hat, and a Stylus RMX 16th note shaker. TK

| I think todd's version sounds better but still the reverb is too nice - I would aim for something that reflects the room better. The verb you are using sounds too nice with too much high end. The hihat is too bright doesn't glue with the kit but hey that's just me and the kick sound feels dated - I'm tired of that sound haha! How about the nashville add-on to EZ?

well, i do like the Nashville snare, but now the pattern is a bit "marching band" in the begining. But i really like the melody of this song, and once it gets further into the song, the drums are very nice. If you continue to work on it at this pace, you will no doubt be getting yourself TV placements. You have good musical instincts D. Just keep doing what you're doing, and it will pay off. Again, really nice tune. And BTW, your piano, pads, basslines, etc, are all really good, quality stuff. Keep rockin'! ![]() TK

I agree that the marching snare pattern isn't working. I like that the stiff hihat pattern from the original is gone but to me the biggest problem is still the kick. It's too forward and clicky. I think a softer more pillowy kick would fit the song better. Great work though.

Well effects or no, I actually like the "pad" vocals. The shaker/kick drum "intro" really works for me, could use a touch more @ 50hz (or there abouts) on the kick. I close my eyes and see someone like Kenny Aronoff doing that to something like this (I've sat through a number of his clinics). In the verse I would probably go back to a hi-hat right away with the same ghosting on the snare. Like the light ride cymbal in the chorus. But hey, this is my first post here and I'm scared to death of you guys....
